An in vitro diagnostics (IVD) monoclonal antibody called P504s can help confirm the diagnosis of prostate cancer.

P504s can detect cancer in samples obtained from prostatectomies, needle biopsies, and transurethral prostate resections. The antibody shows strong cytoplasmic granular staining in prostate cancer. It positively stains prostatic cancer cells, premalignant lesions of the prostate, high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia (PIN) and atypical adenomatous hyperplasia. The P504s protein is expressed in malignant prostate tissues, and only weakly, if at all, in benign prostatic tissue. The staining in each case is easily distinguishable.

P504s is available from Signet Laboratories, Inc. (Dedham, MA, USA), whose stated mission is to create novel diagnostics and drugs for patients at risk for cancer, sepsis and renal failure, neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimers, and prion diseases such as mad cow disease.

P504s is a highly sensitive and specific marker for prostate carcinoma with demonstrated use in detecting and clearly marking malignant tissues and atypical prostate biopsies, stated Angela Thomas, immunohistochemistry (IHC) product manager for Signet Laboratories.
