Preserving Your Eyesight
Check out our info on nutrition for glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts and retinopathy in the Articles section.
Our updated BRITE EYES is now in! This new product has all the great properties of the original product with additional enhancements.
The formlation has been modified to reduce any hypersensitivity by adding new lubricants in higher concentrations. We have changed the buffers for a more soothing effect and added a preservative for better absorption.
We have kept the new packaging system that extends the life of the product without adding unneeded chemicals. Instead of a bottle, it is packaged in 2 -5ml resealable tubes. This will preserve the product longer.
Young eyes contain high concentrations of natural antioxidants that protect against cataract, macular degeneration and other ocular disorders. In the aged eye, synthesis of the antioxidant glutathione is reduced, resulting in excessive free radical damage.
Antioxidant supplements have been shown to help protect against senile eye disorders. Unfortunately, aging diminishes circulation to the eye, thereby reducing the efficacy of orally ingested supplements. The findings from a recent study conclude:
"A need exists for development of therapeutic agents to slow age-related loss of antioxidant activity in the nucleus of the human lens to delay the onset of cataract."
Free radicals are not the only cause of cataracts and other senile eye disorders. Oxidative stress is also a contributing factor in the development of macular degeneration. According to a recent report, ] "nutritional intervention to enhance the glutathione antioxidant capacity may provide an effective way to prevent or treat age-related macular degeneration." Even glaucoma has been linked with reduced blood flow and increased levels of damaging free radicals.
Another problem with aging eyes is protein degradation and the formation of advanced glycation end products. Aged eyes fail to break down and remove old proteins, which results in the accumulation of non-functioning protein crosslinks. The resulting accumulation of damaged proteins leads to senile ocular diseases.
Applying Nutrients Directly to the Eyes
Degenerative changes in the eye often begin in middle age, resulting in macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and other forms of retinopathy in later life. Scientific studies indicate that the topical application of certain nutrients may help to prevent common senile eye disorders. In response to these published reports, an eye drop solution called Brite Eyes has been developed that contains specially designed antioxidants, lubricants and anti-glycating agents.
N-Acetyl-Carnosine: a naturally occurring antioxidant and anti-glycation agent that has shown remarkable effects that protect the eyes in published studies. Brite Eyes also contains N-Acetyl- L-Carnosine, which acts as a time-release version of carnosine. This form of carnosine has access to both the aqueous parts and lipid compartments of the eye.[9] After entering the lipid compartments of the eye, N-Acetyl-L-Carnosine degrades to L-Carnosine, thus protecting the lipid tissues of the eye from light damage.
A recent study showed that carnosine helped to prevent light-induced DNA strand breaks. Furthermore, carnosine application to the eye allowed significant repair of all DNA strands examined. In Russia, carnosine eye drops are approved for corneal erosion, trophic keratitis, postherpetic epitheliopathy, primary and secondary corneal dystrophy, and bullous keratopathy.
Maintaining eye health is a major concern as we age. As we get older our eyes have a harder time fighting off free radicals that cause oxidative stress. This highly oxidized environment within cells comes about as a result of a chemical reaction from exposure to oxygen and sunlight. Since the lens of the eye acts as a light shield for the retina, it?s no wonder it takes all the oxidative punishment. The destructive action of free radicals (they are oxidizing agents) also destroys enzymes that are needed to maintain cellular metabolism. And, since blood flow decreases with age, the eye is further deprived of other essential nutrients for health.
Although many praise the benefits of dietary supplements, another way of preventing and treating eye disorders is through topical solutions.
Brite Eyes is one of the most advanced eye formulas that offer protection from free radicals because of its unique formulation of lubricants, an anti-glycating agent, and antioxidant. Glycation occurs as a result of nonenzymatic binding of sugar to protein, which eventually leads to tissue damage. It's a condition that increases with age.
The newly formulated Brite Eyes contains 1% N-Acetyl-L-Carnosine, a naturally occurring antioxidant and anti-glycating agent that when
topically applied, can penetrate and protect the lipid tissues of the eye against light damage. Brite Eyes will help to diminish free radical damage and the harmful effects of glycosylation associated with degenerative eye disease.
Active Ingredients:
- Glycerin (lubricant) - 1.0%
- Carboxymethylcellulose sodium (lubricant) - 0.3%
Inactive Ingredients: Sterile water (ophthalmic grade isotonic solution, pH 6.3 to 6.5); antioxidants: N-Acetyl-Carnosine (NAC) 1.0%, buffered with borates and potassium bicarbonate and as a preservative, purified benzyl alcohol.
Dosage and Use:
The suggested use of Brite Eyes III is to apply 1 to 2 drops in each eye every day. Those with any kind of eye problem may want to apply 1 to 2 drops several times a day. The 5 ml resealable vials allow for a small amount of product to be exposed to oxygen and bacteria at a time. The unopened vials can be stored in the dark in the refrigerator to extend shelf life.
