- Curcumin May Be Effective Treatment for Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) - Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease are inflammatory bowel diseases characterized by abdominal pain, digestive difficulty, diarrhea or constipation and recurrent bowel ulceration. The July 2003 issue of the American Physiological Society journal, Gastrointestinal and Liver Physiology, (http://ajpgi.physiology.org/) published the findings of Canadian researchers that curcumin, a derivative of the common spice turmeric, may be a well-tolerated and effective therapy for these diseases.
- Super Curcumin Complex - Curcumin has been shown to inhibit the enzyme cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), an enzyme that plays a crucial role in the development of certain cancers and chronic inflammatory diseases. A transcription factor in cancer cells, nuclear factor kappa beta (NF-KB) is also kept at bay with the plant extract. In cancer patients, it is crucial to suppress NF-KB because of its ability to help cancer cells grow and evade control. Curcumin has also been identified as an inhibitor in abnormal platelet aggregation, which could lead to a heart attack or stroke.
- Protocol: Crohn's Disease - The symptoms of Crohn's disease are similar to ulcerative colitis, and both conditions are categorized as inflammatory bowel diseases. To distinguish between them, your physician may need to examine a sample of intestinal tissue. The benefit of nutrient-based therapies is that they are free of serious side effects and can thus be utilized for an indefinite period of time.
